Ages 4–5🔤 Letter tracing
Letter Y tracing worksheet for ages 4–5
Uppercase Y: two short slants that meet in the middle, then a line down. The sheet has a big model with arrows, a row to trace, a row to try alone and the words YES and YARN.
Done — the sheet is in your downloads
In the print dialog choose actual size (100 %) and black and white. Add a thick triangular crayon.
Why is this sheet for ages 4–5?
Y is made of straight lines only – down, across or slanted. A child knows those from pre-writing sheets, which is why straight-line capitals come first.
- Strokes: two short slants that meet in the middle, then a line down.
- The model shows stroke order and direction: top to bottom and left to right, the way print is taught in school.
- The words YES and YARN give the letter a sound and a meaning – trace them and read them together.
💬 Tip for parents
Say the sound out loud (“Y as in yes”) and let your child trace the model with a finger before picking up a crayon. Watch the direction, not the neatness: top to bottom, left to right. Five minutes and one sheet is enough.
