Ages 5–6🔤 Letter tracing
Letter J tracing worksheet for ages 5–6
Uppercase J: a line down that hooks to the left at the bottom, then a bar across the top. The sheet has a big model with arrows, a row to trace, a row to try alone and the words JAM, JET and JUICE.
Done — the sheet is in your downloads
In the print dialog choose actual size (100 %) and black and white. Add a thick triangular crayon.
Why is this sheet for ages 5–6?
J has a curve. A curve needs a smooth stroke and more finger control than a straight line, so it comes after the straight-line capitals.
- Strokes: a line down that hooks to the left at the bottom, then a bar across the top.
- The model shows stroke order and direction: top to bottom and left to right, the way print is taught in school.
- The words JAM, JET and JUICE give the letter a sound and a meaning – trace them and read them together.
💬 Tip for parents
Say the sound out loud (“J as in jam”) and let your child trace the model with a finger before picking up a crayon. Watch the direction, not the neatness: top to bottom, left to right. Five minutes and one sheet is enough.
