Ages 5–6🔡 Lowercase letters

Match each capital letter to its small one – ages 5–6

On the left stand seven capital letters – A, B, D, E, G, H and R – on the right the same letters in small print, in a different order. The child draws a line between the pairs. These are the letters whose two shapes differ the most.

In the print dialog choose actual size (100 %) and black and white. Add a thick triangular crayon.

Why is this sheet for ages 5–6?

Knowing that A and a are one letter is a step without which reading cannot start.

  • Seven pairs whose capital and small shapes look least alike.
  • Nothing to trace – this sheet is thought through, not written.
  • A dot at every letter keeps the line straight.

💬 Tip for parents

Let the child say out loud what they are joining: "big r, small r". If they get stuck, cover half the pairs and offer a choice of three. Check the finished sheet together and don't correct mistakes for them – point at a pair and ask whether it is really so.
