Circles and a spiral – warm-up exercise, ages 4–5

Four circles in a row at the top, a big spiral with three and a half turns below. The path is 8 mm wide. The circles are traced from the top counter-clockwise, the spiral is drawn from the middle outwards in one stroke.

Done — the sheet is in your downloads

In the print dialog choose actual size (100 %) and black and white. Add a thick triangular crayon.

Why is this sheet for ages 4–5?

Circling on a smaller scale than for three-year-olds: the hand rests on the paper and the wrist does the work.

  • Four circles 30 mm across – a round wrist movement.
  • The spiral in one stroke: the hand keeps moving across the whole page.
  • Counter-clockwise, the same direction as the letters a, c and o.

💬 Tip for parents

On the spiral, watch that the child doesn't lift the crayon – even if the line drifts off the path, they carry on. When the spiral is finished, let them go around it once more in another color. Two colors over each other look like a snake or a snail.
