Ages 4–5🌀 Warm-up strokes
Rows of lying eights – warm-up exercise, ages 4–5
Six lying eights in three rows, two side by side. The path is 8 mm wide. Each eight is drawn from the dot in the middle in one stroke; both eights in a row can be traced without lifting the hand.
Done — the sheet is in your downloads
In the print dialog choose actual size (100 %) and black and white. Add a thick triangular crayon.
Why is this sheet for ages 4–5?
An eight joins two circles in one smooth stroke – the hand changes direction but never stops.
- Six eights 72 mm wide – a smaller scale than for three-year-olds.
- A change of direction mid-stroke without lifting the crayon.
- Three rows down the page: the hand works top to bottom, as in writing.
💬 Tip for parents
Before the first stroke, let the child trace an eight with a finger and say out loud “up, around, through the middle”. The two eights in a row can be joined into one long stroke. When the hand gets tired, a break and a shake is enough.
