In the print dialog choose actual size (100 %) and black and white. Add a thick triangular crayon.

Why is this sheet for ages 5–6?

Adding and taking away one is the first arithmetic a child does in their head, with no pictures to lean on.

  • Six rows in the 3–9 range: both answers stay within ten.
  • The numbers are out of order – nothing can be copied from the row above.
  • Arrows and the −1 and +1 signs keep the direction clear.

💬 Tip for parents

This is adding and subtracting one without the equals sign. If the child answers correctly but mixes up the sides, have them say the answer first and point to where it goes. Counting backwards is the harder half – keep it short and frequent, five rows a day is plenty.
