Count and write 1 to 10 worksheets

Twelve worksheets where the child counts the pictures and writes the numeral that goes with them. Sorted by age, from counting to three up to a backwards number line.

For ages 3–4: counting to three with big pictures, matching a group to a numeral, drawing one more, and a 1–5 number line to trace. For ages 4–5: counting to five and writing the numeral, one more and one less, a 1–10 number line with gaps, and matching groups up to ten. For ages 5–6: counting to ten with no model to trace, the line backwards from ten, and numerals with number words.

Every sheet holds one task on a full page and a short tip for parents. They print on A4 or US Letter and suit home as well as a preschool classroom.

Questions parents ask

When can a child start writing numerals?

Tracing a numeral usually works from about four, writing one into an empty box from about five. Before that, counting out loud and pointing is enough – that is why the sheets for ages 3–4 only trace the numeral.

My child counts but keeps getting it wrong. What helps?

Have them count out loud and touch every picture with a finger. The usual mistake is not in the numbers: a picture gets skipped, or counted twice.

How is this different from the number tracing sheets?

The number sheets give each numeral its own page with a big model to trace. Here the child uses the numeral: counts a group and writes the answer, fills a gap in the line, adds one more.

How do I print them?

On A4 or US Letter paper, at actual size (100 %) and in black and white. Each age group also has a bundle with all four sheets in one PDF.
